Silvec 1% Cream prevents the bacteria from producing folic acid, a nutrient required for bacterial multiplication, and acts upon bacterial cell walls and cell membranes.
Silver sulphadiazine 1% cream treats bacterial infections, burns, and wound infections.
The antibacterial action of Silverzine 1% involves several mechanisms. Upon exposure to the drug, structural changes occur in the bacterial cell membrane, leading to distortion, enlargement, and weakening of the cell wall membrane. This process reduces the viability of sensitive bacterial strains. The Silverzine 1% molecule dissociates, and the silver moiety binds to bacterial cells. Once inside the cell wall, the silver moiety attaches to bacterial DNA, preventing bacterial cell proliferation. The ratio of Silverzine 1% to bacterial DNA is believed to be sufficiently high to inhibit bacterial division, while the corresponding ratio to epithelial DNA is low enough to allow epithelial cell regeneration. Additionally, the sulfadiazine moiety contributes to a bacteriostatic action against sensitive organisms. In adults, up to 10% of sulfadiazine may be absorbed, with 60 to 85% of the absorbed amount excreted in the urine. In children with 13% body surface area burns the urinary sulfadiazine concentration was measured at 31.8 mg/L.
Caution is advised in patients with G-6-PD deficiency, renal impairment, or prior allergic reactions to sulfonamides. Sulfadiazine may accumulate in those with hepatic or renal dysfunction. Watch for fungal superinfections and consider analgesics before application. Systemic absorption is notable, warranting vigilance for adverse effects.
Silver sulfadiazine cream is not recommended for individuals with known hypersensitivity to silver sulphonamide, cetyl alcohol, or propylene glycol. Due to the potential risk of kernicterus associated with sulphonamide therapy, it should be avoided in pregnant women at term, premature infants, or infants in the first months of life. Additionally, it is contraindicated in cases of impaired hepatic or renal function, as well as suspected porphyria.
Store in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
